This module deals with some very difficult issues that some of you may find uncomfortable. Normally, when issues like these are raised in plays it is wise to organize talkbacks after and perhaps even before the production and to post notices in the program, lobby and even in the advertisements concerning the play.
Learning Objectives:
By participating in this module, a student will be able to:
1. Identify the main issues raised in the play and possible solutions to the problems posed by the actions of the characters that might have resulted in different and perhaps more positive outcomes than those chosen by the characters.
2. List other kinds of problems faced by men and women in this society that are concerned with gender, as demonstrated by news reports.
3. Compare the role of women and the depiction of men in this play with that in another play you have read this semester in this class.
Tasks:
Read material in the Course Packet dealing with Feminism and works composed and performed by women.
Discuss with your peers in the projects page for this play some of the solutions that the leading character might have made that would have resulted in a different outcome than the ones outlined in the play. And who should be selected to conduct the talkbacks (should there be any) after the play has been performed.
